Too well-dressed to be abused, Madrid, 23 Januari 2004. A Moroccan man had been released after a Spanish court ruled his wife was too well-dressed during the trial to be a victim of domestic violence, news reports said yesterday.

The Myth of the "Battered Husband Syndrome" By Jack C. Straton, Ph.D. Department of Physics Portland State University. The most recurrent backlash against women's safety is the myth that men are battered as often as women. Suzanne Steinmetz created this myth
with her 1977 study of 57 couples, in which four wives were seriously beaten but no husbands were beaten. By a convoluted thought process she concluded that her finding of zero battered husbands implied that men just don't report abuse and therefore 250,000 American husbands are battered each year by their wives, a figure that exploded to 12million in the subsequent media feeding frenzy. Lucy Ward reports on how domestic violence is being tackled in the classroom. "The study, based on focus group discussions and a survey of over 2,000 young people aged 11 to 21 in Scotland and the north of England, found that half the young men questioned thought hitting a woman or forcing her to have sex was acceptable in some circumstances, such as when she had been "nagging" or "disrespectful".
